Shouldn't My Check be Cashed by Now?

Is there a length of time in which one should expect a personal check that was written should be cashed? The personal check itself does not state any expiration date.

Are you certain that your check was received by the payee? Checks can be delayed in the mail, or in the check collection process after they are deposited. Checks often clear a lot faster than some people expect!

Check with the payee to ensure it was received. If for some reason the payee has delayed cashing or depositing the check, you can certainly ask that it be done promptly so that you can more readily reconcile your bank account.

If the check has been deposited but has not yet been posted to your account, it has probably been misrouted or lost on its way. You can't safely assume that it won't show up, however.
