How to Write a Two-Payee Check

How do I make out a check to two people where either one can cash it without the endorsement of the other?

If the two people are named John Smith and Samantha Grey, and you want either of them to be able to cash, deposit or otherwise negotiate the check, use the form "John Smith OR Samantha Grey" to make your intent clearly known. However, a bank might require both endorsements before cashing it, even though it would not be legally required to do so.
