Bank Thinks I was Kiting Checks
I am listed on both of my daughter's checking accounts. Yesterday, she went to deposit a check I had written her for tuition and she was told there would be an eleven day hold on it because of a problem with her account. I called the bank and was told that there was suspicion that approximately four months ago I was kiting checks in my other daughter's account. I guess I can see why it might look this way, because I would sometimes pay them by check for tuition, car payments, etc., and they would have me keep out a portion of the amount for cash. Anyway, if this was done, it was unintentional. When I called the bank, they said that in the future, just give them cash for expenses, or if a check was deposited from me, it would be placed on extended hold. I asked if this would affect their accounts and was told that they would be OK. If they thought something was wrong four months ago, why would it take until now for them to flag their accounts. In the past few months, they have both deposited a few checks from me for tuition, car payments, etc, and have not had a hold. Do I need to worry about being in trouble for this, or since they have informed me of the problem, should that be the end of it? If they were going to close their accounts, would it have happened by now? I am sick over this, as I didn't intend to do anything wrong and certainly don't want to mess up anything for my children.

 If the bank were going to close your account, it would have been done by now. It sounds like you have been put on the equivalent of probation for awhile. Here is one thing that may help your situation. Bank holds have been reduced by regulation to make deposited funds available by the seventh business day after deposit.
