Landlord Doesn't Cash Check: Account is 'On Hold'

I wrote a check to pay my rent, and the landlord did not deposit it until after I reminded him at least three times. Am I still accountable to hold on to the money for more than three months?

You owe the landlord the rent. You wrote him a check. Leave the money in your account so that it is available when the check is presented. You could stop payment on that check and reissue it, but that would cause you an expense that you really don't have to incur.

Because you don't want the check you wrote to be worthless, leave enough in the account to pay it. If the landlord leaves it in your account, it shouldn't matter to you. The debt is there, and you have a record that it was paid, and that you reminded him that he is holding your check.
