Payee Delays Cashing Check: I get Fee!

I wrote a personal check on 9/12/09. I closed my account on 4/5/10. Seven months had passed when they tried to cash it. It was returned, due to the account being closed. Am I liable for the returned fee if they waited over seven months to cash it?

It's unreasonable for the payee to hold onto the check so long before depositing it. There may be extenuating circumstances, but we don't see why you should bear the burden of that fee.
