Time Limit for Cashing Old Check

How long does someone legally have to cash a check that I wrote to him? I have a supplier with a fifteen month old check that he wants to cash, can he?

Your supplier can deposit that check and take his chances if he wants to, and if his bank will accept it for deposit. Your bank will have the option to pay or not pay any check over six months old.

Of course, if your supplier's bank accepts the check for deposit and your bank refuses to pay it, your supplier could get hit with a fee by his bank when the check is returned, so it might be better all around if you were to send the supplier a new check in exchange for the old one, and urge him not to wait so long for the replacement.
