Our landlord takes between one and two months to cash his rent check. Doesn't he only have so long to cash a check?
There are a couple of reasons for negotiating checks promptly. First, there is a law that permits a bank to refuse to pay a check that's more than six months old, but from a practical perspective, the best reason to get the check to the bank promptly is to get the money before it's gone! A surprising number of checking account depositors don't regularly reconcile their accounts, and could make errors that could mean some of their checks arrive at their banks when there aren't enough funds available to pay them. For those check writers, getting a check to the bank quickly can mean avoiding having the check bounce!
It seems that your landlord doesn't have a pressing need for the funds represented by your rent check. If you'd like him to move a little faster, the only thing you can do is to give him an occasional reminder.
