I wrote a check to a company for a certain amount and it cleared for a greater amount than was written on the check. I called my credit union and they placed the money back in my account. Now Telecheck is treating this as a bounced check and demanding that I pay the amount that was not written, plus a return fee. I feel this is fraud, since they cashed it for an amount greater than for what was written. I will write another check for what I had written before.
You should provide Telecheck with a copy of the check and denote for what it was properly written. Ask for evidence of a bounced check. If your check bounced, the payee will have it. If it paid, you will have it. If the payee can't provide a check for the amount he/she said bounced, the problem should be resolved. The payee should also recognize if he had the item processed for more than it was written, and should assist you in correcting the problem, as reported incorrectly.
