I wrote a check to my daughter with different written and numerical amounts. The numerical was what I wanted to give her. My daughter's bank caught the error and changed the deposit amount. However, my bank processed the numerical amount. It's been a week, so I don't think they are going to change it. Seems to me my daughter's bank should honor the amount that my bank sent to them. What do I do?
When the two amounts on the typical check differ, the amount in words controls and becomes the enforceable amount of the check. Ask your bank to sort things out. It sounds like you were charged more for the check than the credit your daughter received credit. One of the banks has to be out of balance.
