Last week I deposited money at the ATM into my account by the cutoff of 4:00 pm. The next day I received a $35 overdraftfee. I called the 1-800 number to speak with a supervisor to see if they would reverse the fee. They said they wouldn't reverse it because the deposit was made at 4:04 pm, four minutes past the cut-off time, and because I had already had a fee reversed a while back. Is there anyway I can get this fee reversed? I am struggling financially and $35 is a lot to lose!
The deadlines are often electronically enforced, so it is a pass or fail issue and close isn't good enough. If the bank recognizes that you had a waived fee in the past, they have worked with you. There is no requirement that they waive a fee at all. Could they for customer service, sure, but again that isn't a requirement and they have done it for you before. The best you can do is watch to prevent this from happening again and always make the deposit before you write the check or make a withdrawal.
