I paid a bill by telephone using my checking account and gave a check number instead of mailing in the check. I forgot to void the check and paid another bill with the check. Will the bank pay two checks with the same number? Is there anything I need to do to rectify this situation?

It's possible that the bank has the ability to detect duplicate check numbers. If so, the bank may realize what has happened and let both payments go through. It's also possible that the bank will refuse to pay one or the other of the payments.
Contact the bank, explain the problem, and ask that they honor both checks with that check number. Do it very soon, because checks do get back to your account very quickly now.
