Evidence of Check Processing

I sent my rent check to my apartment manager as usual. The check was cashed and the money was removed from my account. However my apartment manager claims that the money was initially deposited and then removed from his account because the check bounced. I confronted my credit union about it and they said that my apartment manager's bank had "double posted" the check, but that it had been cashed on my end.

My credit union sent paperwork to my apartment manager's bank and I have provided proof that the money had been removed from my account as well as my copy of the check. My apartment manager is still claiming that they money is not in his account, and that if I don't pay him (again) he will evict me. How can I resolve this issue without paying the money again? The problem seems to be with my apartment manager's bank not issuing the money in his account. Is there any way I could expedite this process?

If your payment was processed, you should have the actual check or image in your statement showing it was paid. If the check bounced, your landlord should have it as evidence that it was processed, but not paid.

Who has the item showing that payment was made? With this, and your statement showing the withdrawal from your account, you can show proof of payment. Your landlord should be able to see this and be reasonable. Likewise, ask him/her to ensure they balanced their account and they should see your deposit. Published on BankingQuestions.com 3/19/08
