Refund Policy for Cashier's Checks

If I get a money order or cashier's check for a large amount, can I get my money back if it is lost or stolen?

Untitled

You should be able to obtain a refund in many states. Ask the bank if it honors claims for lost or stolen cashier's checks under section 3-312 of the Uniform Commercial Code (section 4-406 in New York).

Be aware, however, that section 3-312 includes a waiting period of 90 days from the date the lost or stolen check was issued. The bank can make you wait until the 90th day before it refunds your money or replaces the check.
