I wrote a check for a car payment and it was posted to my account on September 12. I have called twice to make sure that it was paid, but the check still has not cleared the bank. How long should I wait before I contact my bank about this issue?

You wrote a check for your car payment. The lender credited your account as of Sept. 12. Now you are waiting for the check to clear your account.
There is no time limit, as it depends on when the lender actually included your check with their deposit, so that it would come out of your account. You have no control over this.
If it is not on your next bank statement, you may want to call your lender and tell them that they have properly credited your loan, but don't appear to have actually cashed your check. They may find it held in a stack somewhere, but for now, the lender seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle. You have no requirement to follow up, but don't add that amount back into the available balance in your account. Keep it there for when the check is presented, to ensure there is no problem.
