How Can a Closed Account get an Annual Charge?

I have a credit card account that was terminated by the bank. I have made payments faithfully to it and plan to pay it off completely. They just slapped me with an annual charge of $50.00. Is that legal on a closed account?

Check the account contract carefully. It's likely that the actual status of your account is "closed to new advances and purchases," which may allow for the annual fee. It's also possible that the bank made an error in imposing the fee. Your best option is to call and ask.
