Two Banks Closed: Where's My Money?

I had a secured credit card with Providian Bank. They closed and it was re-issued with Washington Mutual and now JP Morgan. The problem is, I dont know where my security deposit is. I have written to Providian, then Wamu and I never received a response.

If you continue to have the secured card, you can contact the bank holding that account, since it would know where its security is, one would hope. The other possibility, given the fact that the two mergers or acquisitions have taken place, is that one of the successor banks may have shut down the credit card and taken the secured deposit to pay off the card line. Have you received any correspondence from any of the banks involved about the credit card line or the deposit account? Often, such correspondence at the time of a takeover of one bank by another comes pouring in all at once and looks like marketing information, and much of it is just that. Could you have tossed any of those communications out? Try contacting JPMorgan Chase and provide account numbers and other information in the hope that it will be able to track down your account.
