Strategy for Working with Collection Agency

My credit card bill has gone to a collection agency. After speaking with them on the phone, the agent told me they want the whole lump sum. I am a college student and won't be able to get the money for a couple of months.

Contact the bank to ask that your account be closed (if it has not already done so). Then try to work with the agency to make monthly or weekly payments. Be sure to find out whether interest is continuing to accrue on your balance.

As soon as you are able, take that money you say you should be able to get in a couple of months, and pay off the balance. You need to get the account paid off to stop negative information from being reported to credit bureaus.
