I am a student in Africa and our banks don’t issue credit cards. I am looking for a reliable, legitimate way I can get a credit card for online transactions. How can I do this?
I understand that major card companies have been reluctant to issue credit cards in Africa for several reasons including telecommunication problems that inhibit this type of commerce. You may need to open an account at a foreign bank which does issue a credit card product. It may also be that, depending on the credit risk they see and because of your location, that you have to deposit an equal or even greater amount of money to be held as security on the credit limit they allow.
Different countries have different rules and different banks have different policies as to who and when they issue credit cards. There is no standard which we can refer you to where you can establish an account.
