Offset on Closed Account?

I had an account closed by the bank because of a loan payment that was late, then I got a direct deposit from child support. Can they reopen the account take the money, then close it back?

Untitled

Yes. Some banks will force an account open when a deposit comes in and the account was already closed. Then, because there is money on deposit, and money owed, they debit that account. It could then be closed again for a variety of reasons, including being at a zero balance.

You can request that they reopen the deposit account and keep it open. You may need a minimum deposit and to have that loan current.
