I have an account with a bank, and an outstanding credit card balance. I decided to get help from a credit bureau to work out a settlement plan with my bank. Can my bank take retaliation by garnishing my account for credit card payments?

If the laws of your state permit a creditor to obtain a court order garnishing your account for unpaid debts, your bank could theoretically do that, and it really doesn't make any difference that the checking account happens to be in the same bank (although clearly it would be easier for the credit card collectors to find the account than it would be if the card were issued by a different creditor). If you get a summons to court, show up, so that you can tell the court that you're attempting a workout of the credit card account balance. That might be enough to convince the court to deny or postpone the bank's request for an order of garnishment.
