Sued by Old Landlord: How to Avoid his Recourse?

I recently incurred a judgment at the Justice of Peace court level after a former landlord sued me for $1,300. An attorney advised me to close my account in order to prevent the landlord from filling an affidavit with my bank and taking my money. I took the attorney's advice, because I had been paying the landlord via check and am positive that he would have filed an affidavit.

I would like to know if it is financially "safe" for me to open a bank account elsewhere? Should I open an account outside my county, city or state? Can the landlord append my social security number on my former account while filling out the affidavit? If so will this affect me ability to open accounts at other banks? Is there a time stipulation on the judgment?

You're asking for help in avoiding what appears to be a legal monetary judgment. The only advice that can be offered is that you revisit the attorney who gave you the idea to close your account.
