Transferring Funds to Pay Expenses

I had POA until time of my father's death and now am executor of his Will. He had about $30,000 in a cashier's check. I am going to need to access it to pay for his funeral. How do I get it transferred to me?

Once you have received your Letters Testamentary or court order designating you as executor, you can deposit the cashier's check into an account in the name of the estate and then pay that bill.

Don't try to speed up the process by trying to transfer the check into your name. The bank shouldn't do it anyhow, but as executor you should ensure that the process is handled legally and properly. The funeral home and others involved in your father's funeral are familiar with delays of this kind. Just don't delay in getting your paperwork into the probate court for approval.
