The fact that the executor also had access to the accounts in another capacity (as an attorney in fact or guardian, for example) has nothing to do with the duration of his/her appointment as executor. The duration of that authority will depend on state law, the complexity of the estate involved and the speed with which he or she is able to complete the steps involved in addressing the obligations of the estate and the distribution of the estate's assets.
