Accessing Investment Funds

My aunt passed away two years ago. She did not leave a Will. She has money in a Pioneer Investment Account. There is no power of attorney and there was nothing that required the probate court to be involved. How do I go about closing out this account and accessing the funds, which amount to around $600?

Contact the broker where the account was held and explain the situation. The broker may be able to pay those funds out to you as a next of kin. The broker will advise you about the documentation you would have to provide for such a transaction. Any power of attorney granted by your aunt would have become ineffective upon her death.
