Received Check Long After Mother's Death

My mother has passed about a year and a half ago. I just received a check in the mail addressed to the heirs of the deceased's name. There was no Will and nothing left to go through probate. How can I cash this check?

Unless you are able to arrange for the issuer of the check to re-issue it payable to one or more individuals, you will have to decide whether it will be worth the costs to proceed with a probate process to get an appointment that will enable you or whoever might be named administrator, to negotiate it. Contact the probate court to find out if there is a streamlined process available for situations such as this.
