Settlement Check Received Eight Years Too Late

I just received a Putnam Fair Funds settlement check made out to my mother, who died almost eight years ago. I closed her estate account a year ago. Her estate was probated. I cannot locate the beneficiary designation form from her IRA, from which this settlement comes, so I can not ask the fund to reissue the check to the four beneficiaries. Any suggestions on how to deposit this check?

You may have to ask the probate court to allow you to temporarily re-open the estate. This sort of problem is actually fairly common, and in most cases, re-opening probate is the only option.
