Uncashed Government Checks from WWII

After my uncle passed away, we found loads of uncashed checks from the Treasurer of the United States. These are checks he received for disability from WWII. Some date back to 1947. They come from The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and state Division of Disbursement/Compensation on them. Are they still valid? What government agency should we contact regarding this?

The checks themselves are no longer valid. It's also doubtful that the claim that resulted in those payments is still effective. The Department of Veterans Affairs would be the best place to check that out. Your local Veterans Agent may be able to assist.
