Mother Passes Bad Checks; Daughter Liable?

My mother, who died recently, was an alcoholic. Before she died, she wrote almost $2,000 worth of bad checks. She didn't have any money of course, and I was wondering if the bank could hold me, the beneficiary of her life insurance, liable?

The bank, or anyone to whom your mother owed money, can pursue your mother's estate for repayment. Insurance money that was payable to you, is not the property of the estate.
