Dealing with Deceased Father's Accounts

My father passed away and my sister is on his safe deposit box account. Will she be on his bank account too? Will she be able to close his account and get the money out? If money was deposited after he died, is it illegal to take it out?

The fact that your sister has access to your late father's safe deposit box means that there is a good possibility that she has access to the checking account, also, but there's no guarantee that she is. If the account was joint with your sister, she will have access; otherwise, only a representative of your dad's estate would have access to the account. As to funds deposited after your father's death, there may or may not be a claim against them. For example, if Social Security payments or checks or certain other government benefits were credited to the account after he died, those funds will have to be returned.
