Lock on Account of the Deceased?

I have an account with someone who recently passed away. He did not have insurance and we are not married. Can the bank put a lock on this account?

In some states, joint accounts may be temporarily frozen for a brief period of time so that certain state tax administration matters may be settled. The only way to know if that has happened in your situation is to contact the bank and ask.
