When my father passed away, I closed all his accounts. I have since then received checks for subscriptions, insurance, etc., that have been canceled. The refund checks were sent to my address, but made out to my deceased father. How do I go about cashing them? I am the sole beneficary of his estate.
The proper way to cash those checks is to have them endorsed by the legal representative of your father's estate. You should talk to an attorney or seek information from your local probate court to find out how much time and expense is involved in opening the estate settlement process. Compare that cost against the dollar value of the checks and decide if it's worth it.
