My grandmother recently died. She was in a nursing home and we had a joint account. I was responsible for paying monthly bills. Can I deposit a check made to her estate in our joint account?
If the joint account carried rights of survivorship, it now belongs to you, and you could not lawfully deposit a check payable to your mother's estate. Such a check can only be negotiated by the estate, through its personal representative, the executor or administrator.
