My father passed away one year ago. I'm living in his home now and I came across four cashier's checks for $10,000 each. The checks are made out to himself from himself, after liquidating his assets. Can I deposit these checks in my account, and if so should it matter if probate is over?
Yes it will matter. Consult an attorney to determine what is needed to open the estate again. Someone other than you may have the rights to this money and you open yourself to criminal acts if you attempt to cash these in place of your father.
