Tax on Joint Accounts after Death

My father just recently passed away. He and my mother had various joint savings accounts. Will she have to pay any taxes on the balance, or do they transfer to her as a surviving spouse?


She should receive those accounts as the surviving co-owner. Whether or not any tax will be due is a question that your mother will need to take up with a qualified tax adviser.
