I am settling an estate. I have poured over the Will and the trust documents. There was an additional signer on the safe deposit box, who died twenty years ago. The other signer that I am representing died two months ago. What do I need to do to get into the safe box? I have both keys.
If you have been appointed by the court as executor or administrator of the estate of the surviving lessee of the box, take a certified copy of your appointment and the box keys to the bank and request access to the box. You will need to identify the owner or owners of any property in the box and distribute it accordingly. You may arrange with the bank to keep the box rented in the name of the estate if you have a need to keep the property there until you finish your duties as executor/administrator.
