Murder Investigation Impedes Access to Lock Box

I am executrix for the Will of my fiance, who was murdered in October, 2007. The police have his lock box keys and will not release them to me. How do I go about retrieving another or drilling the box to obtain the contents?

First, make very certain that the police haven't placed a block on access to the box. Then, if that's not a problem, you could ask them if they would agree to accompany you with a key to facilitate access, understanding that if the police obtain a warrant to search the box, you'll have to wait until the search is completed. You will need to provide the bank a certified copy of your court appointment as executrix. If the police have no objection to your accessing the box, but won't assist with the keys, you should be able to arrange with the bank to have the box lock drilled, again with the court appointment.
