How Does Executor get Bank Records?

As executor, how do I obtain my father's financial records from Virginia Bank?

Untitled

Contact the bank for an appointment. Let them know what you are looking for, and ask what documentation the bank will require to provide that information.

At minimum, the bank will need to know which accounts are involved. Try to find some recent bank statements or other correspondence that might include account numbers, etc. Don't be overly concerned if you aren't able to dig up everything. The bank should be able to find the accounts; having the account numbers just makes things easier. Other information and documents the bank will need, if it does not already have them:
  1. Your father's Social Security number. It will help them complete their search for accounts.
  2. A certified copy of your father's Death Certificate.
  3. An original of your court-issued Letters Testamentary (in some states, simply called the Appointment of Executor). Being nominated as executor in your father's Will isn't sufficient; the probate court has to make the appointment before it's official.
With that information and those documents, the bank should be able to surrender any funds in your father's accounts to his estate (for your accounting and disbursement), and provide whatever records of his accounts you need.
