Joint CD Part of Estate?

My mother and I were joint owners of a CD at our local bank. She died in 2007, and now a niece is trying to claim the CD as part of my mother's estate. What is the law in Texas concerning joint ownership of a CD account?

The account became yours on your mother's death, and was never part of her estate. If the account is still on the bank's books in the joint names, arrange to have the account updated to remove your mother's name or to transfer the funds into an account in your name alone. If the bank doesn't already have them, you'll need a copy of your mother's death certificate and personal identification.
