Putting Foreign National on Account as Joint Owner

My husband and I recently got married and we are going through the immigration process, as I am a foreign national applying for permanent residency. Now, the immigration services require that we have a bank account together, but I have no SSN or US ID yet, because my application is still pending. How can my husband add me to his account, or how can we open a bank account together?

It is legal for a U.S. bank to add a foreign national as a joint owner, with the consent of the current owner, or to open a new account with a foreign national as one of the joint owners. Not all banks are willing to do so, so your husband should check first with his bank to determine what its policy is. The bank can accept a government-issued ID from your native country, along with certain other documents such as a visa showing your legal presence in the U.S.
