Opening Bank Accounts Away from Residence

I am a Canadian citizen living in Los Angeles. Within the next two months I am expecting an inheritance from a relative in Toronto. Will I be able to open a checking account in Canada? How should I go about doing this?

The focus of BankingQuestion.com's Ask a Banker service is banking in the U.S. We don't profess any particular expertise in the banking rules or systems of other countries. While there are a number similarities in U.S. and Canadian banking traditions and practices, there are also many differences.

You should contact one of the banks in Toronto and make your inquiry directly. All the larger banks have toll-free listings on the internet. Published on BankingQuestions.com 7/12/07
