I placed a us treasury check in my bank's atm machine for deposit and two days later got it back in the mail. the bank sent a letter saying they no longer accept government checks unless they are made in person or by electronic.
Can they do this? I thought you had to accept all deposits.
They didn't say they wouldnt accept it...only that they could not accept the check for deposit in their atm. Regardless too many details were left out to answer your question... Is the check written out to you and only you, or is there a second person named on the check. If so, is that second person also on the account you attempted to deposit to?
The check was made payable to me only and I was wanting to deposit it into my checking account. I talked with a assistent branch manager who said that this was to prevent fraudulant checks. i understand their reasoning, i just thought if it came from the government it had to be deposited. lesson learned.
