Patrick--In my position in fraud/loss prevention, I am not aware of a reporting requirement regarding counterfeit cashier's checks. There are several networks out there to which banks CAN belong to share such information, but I am not aware of a reporting requirement to FDIC. When I am working on a fraudulent transaction, I contact the proper investigative authorities (local PD, USSS, etc.) and I contact the regional clearing house association. They organize a database on such occurrences for the purposes of protecting financial institutions and merchants from losses and assisting law enforcement at all levels in retrieving information on fraudulent activity. That's the extent of MY reporting. I'm afraid that we'll have to look to John or another BOL guru for a more direct answer to your question.
