I just found a website offering a very high interest cd Is there anyone who can tell me what is the best thing to do: go for it or skip it? Of course I understand that there are risks especially when investing abroad, but at home the rates are so low!

I'm not equipped to evaluate the risk of an investment in a foreign bank (and your placement of funds in a foreign CD should be viewed in such a way, in my opinion). But I can tell you that such an investment would not be covered by FDIC deposit insurance.

If I were in your position, I would not make the investment.

Wouldn't you think that if the returns were really this good and the funds were safe, there'd be folks flocking to put large amounts there?

There is no such thing as a free lunch, and if a deal looks to good to be true...

Before I'd ever consider this, a huge amount of research would be done and I'd never want to place more than I was able to lose. John's point on insurance should not be over-looked.
