I am receiving checks from a refinance to payoff some credit card. The checks will be made out to me and the credit card company. Can I deposit the check into my account and pay the credit card company from my account?

If the check is issued, as I imagine it will be, with your name and the credit card company's name connected by the word AND, it will take endorsements from both you and the credit card company to negotiate the check.

I recommend that you endorse the check with your signature and forward the check with the return portion of your credit card bill to the credit card company. Take a copy of the check before you put it in the mail.

As you send off those checks, be prepared for more interest. It may be that interest has accrued since you asked for those payoffs.

The checks you send may not complete the payoff required. Either call before you send them, ask for a payoff about 5 to 7 days out, and add a personal check for the complete payoff, or watch for statements after they process the checks you are sending now for the residual amounts owed.

Lastly, those credit cards with annual fees can fund themselves. You may want to cancel these now, or mark your calendar for the renewal dates so you can then decide if you want to keep that card at the price of the annual fee.
