I have check in the amount of $6,000 drawn on a local bank (Bank of America). The issuer is a large account holder but I do not have an account with Bank of America. Will they let me cash such a large check without an account?

I don't want to open an account with Bank of America, as I need the funds to go into my institution and be available faster. I know the funds would be placed on hold if I deposited them with my bank (Wells Fargo).

Also, if they will cash a check of this size, would they issue a certified check or cashiers check in lieu of cash?

Thanks,
Chris

No one in this forum will be able to tell you what Bank of America's check cashing policy is for a non-customer. These will vary from bank to bank. Your best option is to call a local branch and ask them what they can do for you.

Well, I understand that. I was just aiming to see if it was something completely unreasonable for a bank to do. Thank you for your advice!
