Some months I get a statement on my savings account and sometimes I don't. Is there any reason why I don't get them consistantly? I asked the teller at the downtown office, but she gave me an answer I don't understand. I use the account as a backup to my checking account and am use to getting monthly statements on both in the same mailing. I'd ask my son to help, but he lives out of town.

Without actually being your financial institution, it is difficult to say why you are not receiving your statements monthly (my reason might not be theirs). But activity is hte best reason I can think of - you don't get a statement if you had no activity.

I would go up the line at your branch and speak to a teller supervisor or manager. The should be more knowledgeable about your bank's practices than the tellers.

You say that you use the account as a backup for your checking account. You may be using your account the way I use mine. I transfer money to my checking account via the internet when my account gets low. Transfers between accounts at the same bank don't trigger the requirement to cut a statement monthly. You may want to look at that. If that doesn't explain it then Mr. Brinker suggestion is certainly a good one.

Our savings accounts are set to send statements out quarterly (every 3 months) to coinside with when we pay interest to the account. If the account has any time of electronic activity, the law requires that we sent it monthly. For customers who also have checking accounts with us, we do combine the savings and checking statements into one to make it easier on our customers and save us postage.
Ask your bank if they offer combined statements, and if they do, have them combine your checking and savings so that you will get them together every month.

That is what we do as well...send quarterly unless some type of electronic activity occurred.

To the original poster...ask your bank to see if they can 'attach' your savings statement with your checking account. We print out the savings statements at the bottom of the checking. This way you'll get your savings statements every month along with your checking.

RDM,

You must be fairly internet-savvy if you are posting on this site. Does your bank offer free online banking? Most do. With online banking (also known as internet banking), you could check the balances of your accounts at your convenience. Most online banking systems will allow you not only to view your accounts, but also to transfer funds between them and request a statement at any time.

If you prefer a mailed statement, I would suggest you call your bank and ask for bank services, bookkeeping, or customer service. You may only need to request a monthly statement to get one. The tellers may not be aware of this.

It could also be a problem with your mail delivery. My mail does not always get to me first. I continually receive other people's mail and sometimes mine is opened when I get it, so, I have chosen to accept most of my statements online versus the U.S. Postal Service. I even canceled a credit card because the statement was 2 weeks late and when I received it, it was opened and the envelope had tape on it to close it.

Some of my friends told me they sent Christmas cards to me and I still have not recieved those. One of them said she sent hers the first week in December. I hope whoever received them enjoyed them.

As you can see, I am not too pleased with the U.S. Postal Service. I will get off my soapbox now.

Suwannee, I do hope you've contacted the PO's complaint department or Postal Inspectors. This type of service cannot be tolerated!

It's no fun being PO'd at the PO.

I have gone to the Post Office and filed complaints several times. It really doesn't do any good other than to let them know that it happens.

I have trouble with my postal delivery, too. There's a guy on another street (same street number) on the carrier's route who routinely gets magazine and credit card bills addressed to me. I got one tucked in my door yesterday with his scrawl on the envelope: "Opened by mistake. It's due tomorrow. Better hurry!"

I'm thinking about getting a post office box.
