Hi, i'm doing my A level coursework on online banking and it would be of a great help if people could tell me why they bank online, or if you don't bank online, why not? thanks! it's much appreciated!
I do bank on-line for several reasons, mainly because it is easier, cheaper, and quicker.
Easier in the fact that I can bank when I want to bank and not be restricted to certain hours. Cheaper since I don't have to buy stamps anymore or spend my time and gas driving to the branch or ATM. Quicker because I don't have to wait in lines at the branch and I can do all my bills at one time.
I hope this helps you for your paper. Also, if you search on Google for On-line Banking research, you can find tons of studies that have been done that may help you.
I bank online for many of the same reasons that TX does. I personally like not buying 8-10 stamps each month. I also don't always have time to take care of my banking business (even though I work in a bank), and online allows me to manage my finances more efficiently.
You don't have to go back that far to know that all banking business used to take place at the bank. Even balance inquiries were handled at the teller lines. Over the years and with advances in bank products such as personal lines of credit, ATM machines and universal internet access, most banking business is taking place outside of the bank. It's good for us because we don't have the cost of cleaning the carpets as much, and it's good for the consumers because of the convenience of doing their business at home. We'll make the services available because we save money and consumers will use the services because they like the convenience. It's a wonderful win-win situation.
I feel more confident that a payment was received, compared to if I mailed it. I agree with everyone else about not having to buy as many stamps, and not having the time to go to the bank during business hours.
Like many of the others said, you can: -
Do your banking anytime,
Pay bills at little or no cost,
Set the system once to pay re-occuring bills (loan payments),
Verify when checks have cleared,
Download statements to accounting software,
Electronically retrieve checks,
Inquire via e-mail about other services,
Compare rates-terms, etc. from multiple financial institutions,
Transfer funds from [your] other account if you see the checking account balance is getting low,
Save paper from having statements mailed,
Not worry if your statement is going to be taken from the mail box.
etc.
Just to be different I don't bank online. I'm one of the last people on earth to not have internet at home. Call me old fashion, I still like writing out checks.

I hate writing checks. I have carpal tunnel and my hand cramps after three. Also the merchants get their payments faster on-line than if I mail them, so I can hang onto my money longer.
I can set up reoccuring payments, like my mortgage and my childcare, on my schedule. Daycare is every Friday. I don't have to take my purse in when I pick up the kids and all of their junk.
