I'm having some financial difficulities and I bounced some checks. The bank closed my account. I can understand that but they didn't send me a letter saying that they were going to close it. They just closed it and then I got a letter. Can they close my account without letting me know ahead of time?

It would have been nice if they had provided advance notice, but they can close your account at any time.

In addition, if you owed the Bank any money when they closed your account, they may have turned you to Chex Systems ( a consumer reporting agency used by banks and other financial institutions that reports individuals who whose accounts were closed for improper handling) - which means that you may not be able to open another account at any other bank for a long time. I suggest you contact your bank, pay them any money you owe them, and get a letter from them saying that all monies owed were paid. This won't guarantee that you will be able to open another account, but it may help.
