My son and I tried to get a mortgage from Wells Fargo. For over four months, the only thing we got was the runaround. Even after four months, Wells Fargo never told us if we had a loan.
I want to make a formal complaint to someone or some comsumer's group. What is the process of making a formal complaint? Also, isn't Wells Fargo required to notify us of the final status of our loan application?
Wells Fargo is a national bank and is regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, OCC. They have an ombudsman who handles consumer complaints. You can place your complaint in any of several ways, but start here, at the OCC site for getting the information you need.
Typically a lender will respond within thirty days to an application request. There are caveats however, as to whether or not they had a complete application and what the hold up was. The OCC will ask for both sides and attempt to provide assistance.
