My wife and I refinanced our house and put the money in a joint account. I found out that last year she took the money out and put it in a checking account in her name only, and it is gone now! She claims she paid bills with it. What are my options (besides divorce)?
There isn't much you can do. While in a joint account each owner has full rights to make withdrawals and do with what they want with the money. You could have done the same.
You might ask her for full disclosure and to review the bank statements or copies of the payments. There should be evidence of the money leaving the account and going against your debt. If she hasn't retained these, the bank and creditors could make copies available. Hopefully better communication will lead to a resolution.
